What's New?

As the Wisconsin state highway system is constantly evolving and new (or "new" historical) information is discovered or passed along, new and updated information is added to this site regularly. Below you will find a list of many of those changes, with the newest changes listed first.

October 24, 2016 –   New! Updated the STH-159 route listing to reflect its lengthening along a portion of the former route of STH-123.
October 23, 2016 –   New! Updated the STH-123 route listing and the Master List to show STH-123 had been decommissioned when the portion of the route between STH-159 and STH-113 was transferred to county and local control in 2016.
October 22, 2016 –   New! Updated the STH-74 route listing and the Master List to show STH-75 had been decommissioned when the entire route was transferred to county and local control in late 2015.
October 21, 2016 –   New! Added the beginnings of a route listing for TEMPORARY US-18 at Waukesha.
October 14, 2016 –   New! Updated the I-39 route listing to reflect that it's no longer the state's newest Interstate route.
October 13, 2016 –   New! The website refresh and update continues with refreshed pages in the following sections:
October 10, 2016 –   New! Added a graphic of the Scenic Byway route marker to the Route Markers page and converted the following pages over to the new website design with some limited content revisions:
October 9, 2016 –   New! In an effort to further jumpstart the comprehensive website overhaul and update, the following pages have been converted to the new site design and some limited content updates have occurred:
February 5, 2016 –   New! After WAY too many years of inactivity (I guess the site was on "hiatus" or something...), the long road to the complete overhaul and refresh of the website has begun. A new version of the homepage and a new Wisconsin Highways page have been uploaded.
April 14, 2008 –   Made grammatical and other improvements to a wide variety of pages across the entire website.
January 2, 2008 –   Happy New Year! Made a few sitewide changes for the New Year, including updating the copyright in the footer at the bottom of every page.
July 9, 2007 –   Updated the US-141 route listing to show the completion of the expressway extension into Marinette Co and new bypass of Coleman and Pound.
May 28, 2007 –   Added a new link to photos of the new STH-119 sigage to the Airport Spur Freeway page and STH-119 route listing.
May 27, 2007 –   To reflect the new signs being erected showing STH-119 along the Airport Spur Freeway, several listings including the Airport Spur Freeway page and STH-119 route listing were updated.
February 6, 2007 –   Removed an erroneous listing from the Business Connections page. (Thanks Jacob!)
January 20, 2007 –   Major update to the Connecting Highways pages, including migrating all routes to new pages, coinciding with the 2005 realignment of the former WisDOT Districts to the current Region system. Also added new information to the STH-83 route listing regarding a realignment through downtown Burlington in c.2002-03 and updated the STH-16 and STH-67 listings to reflect the new Oconomwoc Bypass.
January 7, 2007 –   Several updates today:
January 6, 2007 –   Transitioned eleven more business route listings (BUS STH-23 Green Lake through BUS STH-42 Sturgeon Bay) to the Business Connections page. Also added new historic information to the STH-40 route listing. Also added new information and a photograph to the Business Route Specs page.
January 5, 2007 –   Added nine more listings for BUS US-14 (Janesville), BUS STH-16, BUS US-18 (Mount Horeb) and BUS US-18 (Verona) to the Business Connections page.
January 2, 2007 –   Happy New Year! Made a few sitewide changes for the New Year, including updating the copyright in the footer at the bottom of every page. Also updated the STH-175 route listing to reflect its truncation to south of Fond du Lac yesterday.
August 29, 2006 –   Added three new photo pages with images of the US-53 Eau Claire Bypass construction in 2004 and of BYPASS US-53 in 2005. Added links to those pages on the US-53, Former BYP US-53, STH-124 and STH-312 route listings pages.
August 29, 2006 –   Added a brand-new map of the Greater Eau Claire & Chippewa Falls Area to illustrate the many highway changes which have occurred in the area since 2001. Added links to the new map from the appropriate route listings pages and updated the Maps page as well.
August 21, 2006 –   The final three miles of the US-53 "Eau Claire bypass" freeway opened to traffic today. The following route listing changes were made as a result:
August 15, 2006 –   Made several corrections to the STH-312 route listing based on information provided by Peter Johnson. (Thanks!) Also completed the former route designation descriptions through the "50s" on the Master List 1917-Present page.
August 13, 2006 –   Finally uploaded the Master List 1917-Present page, which is nearly complete. All that is left is the inclusion of the remaining descriptions of former designations. However, site visitors are encouraged to review it and contribute any designations which are incomplete or excluded!
August 8, 2006 –   Added several new links to the "Additional Information & Resources" section of the Milwaukee Freeways page, mostly in reference to James Casey, transportation expert, historian and author of "The Politics of Congestion: The Continuing Legacy of the Milwaukee Freeway Revolt".
July 23, 2006 –   Added links to the US-12 Whitewater Bypass Map to the US-12, STH-59 and STH-89 route listings.
July 22, 2006 –   Added new information to the STH-23 (Fond du Lac-Plymouth improvements), STH-29 (Green Bay area upgrades) and STH-32 (Claude Allouez Bridge replacement project) route listings.
July 21, 2006 –   Updated the US-8 and STH-17 route listings to include the removal of Rhinelander's BUS US-8 route. Removed the BUS US-8 (Rhinelander) listing from the Business Connections page.
July 6, 2006 –   Added a new link to the Links page and additional "Continue On" links in individual highway listings for routes that begin at the Illinois state line.
May 2, 2006 –   Uploaded two additional listings—BUS US-12 (Sauk City-Prairie du Sac) and BUS US-12 (Whitewater)—to the Business Connections page.
April 28, 2006 –   Uploaded the first eight route listings to the Business Connections page.
April 22, 2006 –   Corrected the route listings for SPUR STH-42 and SPUR STH-51 to reflect SPUR STH-32's decommissioning. Also uploaded new route marker graphics for EVERY US and State trunk highway listing on the website (183 images).
April 14, 2006 –   Completed migrating the last four listings to the Highways 400-894 page: I-794, STH-794, SPUR STH-794 and I-894; Also updated the SPUR STH-32 route listing to show its status as a former state trunk highway.
April 13, 2006 –   Updated the STH-50 and STH-38 route listings. —Thanks Jon and Mark! Also added some new historical information to the Milwaukee Freeways article regarding additional referenda on the freeway system. —Thanks Jim!
April 12, 2006 –   Completed migrating the last two listings to the Highways 200-399 page: STH-341 and Former STH-351; Also uploaded the first two listings to the Highways 400-894 page: STH-441 and I-535.
April 11, 2006 –   Uploaded the next two listings to the Highways 200-399 page: STH-310 and STH-312.
April 6, 2006 –   Completed migrating the first four listings to the Highways 200-399 page: STH-213, STH-241, STH-243 and STH-253; Also added new links to the US-8, US-10, US-12, STH-64, and I-94 route listings to bridges featured on John Weeks' The Bridges Of Minneapolis And St. Paul site.
April 6, 2006 –   Completed the entire Highways 190-199 page, uploading the four listings to that page.
April 4, 2006 –   Completed moving listings on the Highways 180-189 page to the new site: STH-182 through STH-188.
April 2, 2006 –   Moved the first two listings to the Highways 180-189 page: STH-180 and STH-181; also added new historical information to the STH-59 route listing. —Thanks Jon!
March 31, 2006 –   Completed moving listings on the Highways 170-179 page to the new site: STH-178 and STH-179.
March 30, 2006 –   Uploaded the next four listings to the Highways 170-179 page: STH-172, STH-173, STH-175 and Former STH-176.
March 26, 2006 –   Completed moving listings on the Highways 160-169 page to the new site: Former STH-168 and STH-169; Also uploaded the first two listings to the Highways 170-179 page: STH-170 and STH-171.
March 25, 2006 –   Uploaded the following listings to the Highways 160-169 page: STH-162, Former STH-163, STH-164, STH-165 and STH-167.
March 24, 2006 –   Completed the Highways 150-159 page with the addition of the STH-158 and STH-159 listings. Also debuted the Highways 160-169 page with the first two listings for STH-160 and STH-161.
March 23, 2006 –   Completed the new STH-157 route listing on the Highways 150-159 page.
March 21, 2006 –   Uploaded the next five route listings (STH-152 through STH-156) the Highways 150-159 page.
March 19, 2006 –   Completed the new US-151 route listing on the Highways 150-159 page.
March 13, 2006 –   Uploaded the first listing to the Highways 150-159 page: Former STH-150.
March 11, 2006 –   The final four route listings on the Highways 140-149 page have been completed: STH-145, STH-146, STH-147 and Former STH-149.
March 10, 2006 –   The final freeway articles in the new Milwaukee Freeways section are completed and added to the site: those for the West Bend Freeway and the Zoo Freeway. Also added links to the specific freeway articles to many individual route listings.
March 7, 2006 –   Yet another new addition to the Milwaukee Freeways section: the article on the Stadium Freeway is now complete.
March 6, 2006 –   Another new addition to the Milwaukee Freeways section: the article on the Rock Freeway is now complete.
March 4, 2006 –   Two new additions to the Milwaukee Freeways section: specific articles on the North-South Freeway and the Park Freeway are complete as are maps of the proposed Park East and Park West.
March 1, 2006 –   A MAJOR new addition to the website: the Milwaukee Freeways section, including a comprehensive chronicling of the Milwaukee freeway saga and articles on each freeway (existing, proposed or otherwise). Articles on the Airport, Airport Spur, Bay, Belt, East-West, Fond du Lac, and Lake Freeways are complete.
February 27, 2006 –   Added Wisconsin Official Maps: Christopher Bessert Collection.
February 7, 2006 –   Made a few very minor corrections to the text on the Route Markers page. (Thanks Craig!)
January 21, 2006 –   Updated the STH-115 route listing (again) to indicate the precise date of its transfer to local control as CTH-DJ.
January 14, 2006 –   Updated the STH-115 route listing to indicate that highway's transfer to county control and removal from the state trunk highway system. Also added a new page of STH-131 Photos: Rockton-Ontario, 1999/2005 and added links to same to the appropriate pages.
January 12, 2006 –   Updated both the US-41 route listing and US-41: The Complete History to reflect the completion of the Interstate Bridge project linking Menominee and Marinette, Wisc.
January 11, 2006 –   Updated the termini information for STH-21 (eastern) and STH-33 (western) with new information received from WisDOT contacts.
January 7, 2006 –   Updated the System of Numbering State Trunk Highways for
Guidance of Travelers, Historical Background
memorandum with an additional corrective footnote annotation.

December 31, 2005 –   Transferred the first two route listings on the Highways 140-149 page: STH-140 and US-141.
December 30, 2005 –   Transferred the remainder of the route listings on the Highways 130-139 page (STH-133, STH-134, STH-136, STH-137, STH-138 and STH-139). Also updated/corrected several of the "Additional Information" links at the bottom of the Great River Road page.
December 29, 2005 –   Transferred the Proposed US-8 (Pembine-Hermansville) page from the old website and added links to it and the STH-131 in the Kickapoo River Valley map to the Maps page. Also added information on the proposed US-8 alignment and links to the maps to the US-8 route listing.
December 27, 2005 –   Uploaded a brand-new article to the In-Depth section: STH-131 in the Kickapoo River Valley, includes a detailed map. Also completed migrating the STH-131 listing to the Highways 130-139 page.
December 22, 2005 –   Transferred the first listing to the Highways 130-139 page: STH-130.
December 21, 2005 –   Transferred the last four listings to the Highways 120-129 page: STH-126, STH-127, STH-128 and STH-129.

October 11, 2005 –   Completed transferring the last three listings—STH-117 through STH-119—to the Highways 110-119 page.
October 10, 2005 –   Transferred five additional listings—STH-112 through STH-116—to the Highways 110-119 page.
October 6, 2005 –   Transferred the first two listings—STH-110 and STH-111—to the Highways 110-119 page and added a link to the Wisconsin State Trunk Highway System Map at the top of each of the listings pages.
September 15, 2005 –   Completed transferring the remaining listings—STH-106 through FORMER STH-109—to the Highways 100-109 page.
September 11, 2005 –   Transferred two more listings—STH-104 and STH-105—to the Highways 100-109 page.

September 9, 2005 –   Updated the STH-29 listing to reflect the completion of the Chippewa Falls freeway bypass in mid-August and transferred the first listing—STH-100—to the Highways 100-109 page.
September 7, 2005 –   Added the links to the Wisconsin State Trunk Highway System Map and its companion detail maps to the homepage, the primary Highway Listings page and the Maps section of the website.
August 25, 2005 –   Updated/corrected the route history for STH-92, also made several minor formatting changes to various pages.
August 10, 2005 –   Added the remaining six listings—I-94 through FORMER STH-99—to the Highways 90-99 page. Added the Marquette Interchange information box to the bottom of the homepage and to the US-41, I-43 and I-94 listings.
August 8, 2005 –   Added two more listings—STH-92 and STH-93—to the Highways 90-99 page. Also made slight modifications to the Wisconsin's Highways and Wisconsin's Interstates pages.
August 7, 2005 –   Added the first two listings—I-90 and STH-91—to the Highways 90-99 page.
August 5, 2005 –   Updated the Highways 50-59 page to include a brand-new route listing for BYPASS US-53 and modified the US-53 listing to include information on the new BYPASS US-53 designation.
August 4, 2005 –   With the opening of the new Whitewater Bypass today, the US-12, STH-59 and STH-89 listings have been revised. Also completed and uploaded the remainder of the route listings to complete the Highways 80-89 page (from STH-83 through STH-89).
July 3, 2005 –   Uploaded a new page containing a memorandum titled System of Numbering State Trunk Highways for Guidance of Travelers, Historical Background into the In Depth section of the website.
June 29, 2005 –   Added information about newly-discovered BUS STH-40 to the STH-40 listing.
June 28, 2005 –   Updated the information for the various former BUS US-41 routings in the US-41 listing, added information regarding BUS US-10 (Neillsville) to the US-10 listing, and updated the cost of the Whitewater Bypass project in the US-12 listing.
June 24, 2005 –   Updated the US-12 listing with the newly-projected completion date for the Whitewater Bypass project and the US-53 listing to include the completion and opening of an addition 4.5 miles of the US-53 freeway in Eau Claire.
June 19, 2005 –   Completed the Highways 70-79 page with listings for STH-78 and STH-79 and added the listings for STH-80, STH-81 and STH-82 to the Highways 80-89 page.
June 5, 2005 –   Added the listings for STH-71 through STH-77 on the Highways 70-79 page.
June 3, 2005 –   Completed the Highways 60-69 page with listings for STH-68 and STH-69 and added the first listing on the Highways 70-79 page.
May 31, 2005 –   Added listings to the Highways 60-69 page, from US-61 through STH-67.

March 25, 2005 –   Finished the highway listings—STH-36 through STH-39—for the Highways 30-39 page, which is now complete.

February 23, 2005 –   Added an additional 'historic' state trunk highway route marker from the 1950s to the Wisconsin's Route Markers page.
February 22, 2005 –   Made a few housekeeping changes to the Wisconsin's Highways, STH-32: Red Arrow Highway and Great River Road pages and added a new graphic to the Wisconsin's Interstates page. Also added the BUS US-12 (Sauk City-Prairie du Sac) listing to the US-12 route listing.
February 7, 2005 –   Uploaded the first seven listings on the Highways 20-29 page and made a few minor tweaks to the Highways 10-19 page.
February 6, 2005 –   Uploaded the second completed Route Listings page migrated over from the old site: Highways 10-19.
January 23, 2005 –   Uploaded the first completed Route Listings page migrated over from the old site: Highways 1-9. Also completed the Lake Michigan Circle Tour and Lake Superior Circle Tour pages.
January 9, 2005 –   Added two additional 'historic' US Highway markers to the Route Markers page and made other textual edits as well.
January 8, 2005 –   Completed moving all seven Connecting Highways pages to the new site and spruced up the homepage a bit with some new text and a historical photo of US-18/Bluemound Rd in 1946.
January 2-5, 2005 –   Made many minor adjustments to the new site.
January 1, 2005 –   New e-mail address for comments, updates, suggestions and general feedback is put into place: chris -at- wisconsinhighways - dot- org. Please note, a spam trap is in effect, so be sure to change the symbol before the domain name to an "at" symbol.
December 29, 2004 –   Portions of the new website go online, ironically two years to the day since the domain was registered.
December 29, 2002 –   Domain "www.wisconsinhighways.org" registered; placeholder homepage uploaded.
